TithiDarshika

Tithidarshika is a tool to provide ready reference to some of primary elements of the time which is known as Panchanga (Tithi, Vara, Nakshatra, Yoga and Karan), in a visually appealing desk calendar design.

In addition to the traditional time elements such as Tithi, Vara, Nakshatra, Rashi, time for rising and setting of Sun and Moon, it also combines the Gregorian days, dates and months for ease of use.

तिथिवारं च नक्षत्रं योगः करणमेव च।
इति पंचांगमाख्यातं व्रतपर्व निदर्शकम।

Meaning that Tithi, Vara, Nakshatra, Yoga and Karan comprises Panchanga, using which Vrat and Parva are to be known.

In Hindu tradition, there are different Panchanga using which one can precisely deduce the time for any past and future event. Usually, these Panchanga are made available every year in printed booklet form and nowadays available in digital forms too, readable only by the experts or astrologers.

Given the importance of Tithi in our culture, it is unbelievable to see majority of Hindus do not know basics about Panchanga, rather rely on converting a Gregorian date to a corresponding Tithi. Just for a quick realization, try to remember the Tithi of your birthday or marriage! All our Samskara and Vrata are strictly observed on a given Tithi and many a times even during certain time period within the Tithi. Even in this modern time, all the important events right from the birth till death and everything in between, baby’s first time food intake, first time outdoor, janeu (sacred thread), education, marriage, house construction, business, etc. are strictly done on a particular Tithi. Even going beyond life and death the Tithi are to be observed for Garbhadhana and Shraadh/Pitru Karma.

After releasing the Dindarshika calendar toy for the kids, we realized that giving this knowledge to kids only is not enough unless the parents have basic knowledge about the Panchanga. There came the idea of creating Tithidarshika and after the routine chase of knowledge, finally the first version got readied on the auspicious day Chaitra, Shukla Pratipada of our new year 2081 (Vikram Samvat).

We know it might not be an easy thing to adapt, but this was and will be the perfect way to record, observe and celebrate an event in time. We have put our best efforts to make it a visual treat.
